§ The map · Idaho
Idaho was admitted to the Union in 1890.
Its territory once took in Montana and almost all of Wyoming, and was larger than Texas. Congress cut it twice, then admitted what was left twenty-two years later.
Asked how many people in the other party support political violence, Idaho residents put the figure at 55.6%. Asked the same people whether they themselves support it, the answer comes back at 12.4%. The distance between what is believed and what is true is 43.2 points, across 690 respondents in Idaho.
None of this requires anyone to be lying. It only requires everyone to be sure, and nobody to check.
