Mississippi was admitted to the Union in 1817.
Congress split the Mississippi Territory in two over three days in March 1817. The western half came in that December and the eastern half became Alabama two years later.
Asked how many people in the other party support political violence, Mississippi residents put the figure at 51.3%. Asked the same people whether they themselves support it, the answer comes back at 15.6%. The distance between what is believed and what is true is 35.7 points, across 857 respondents in Mississippi.
